After a career as an art teacher in Zimbabwe, Avril is concentrating on developing her art and ideas here in Devon. She enjoys drawing, watercolours, and mixed media; exploring colour, shape and texture in her bright and vibrant work.

I have lived in many parts of the country from Skye to Devon. These experiences colour my view of the world. I studied printing and have a keen interest in photography but in recent years have come back to painting.

I paint in acrylic and mixed media and am inspired by many things. I let the pictures speak for themselves.

I have a body of work that is in the traditional watercolour mode; landscapes, figuratives and abstracts. Recently I have lifted the medium out of it's frame and given it the expanse and scale of working on canvas while retaining it's transparency and fluidity.

My abstract paintings are influenced by my response to the ancient landscape and how it is formed by the forces of rivers and the sea. Large sweeping gestures with big brushes give my paintings a dynamic energy and evoke a lyrical quality.

I graduated as a mature student from Plymouth College of Art and Design in 2007 with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art.
