I am a scientist involved with the preservation of historic houses and artifacts. I am a 2 star kayak instructor and I am manager of the Harbertonford.org website.

One of my concerns as a councillor is that the new housing planned for Harbertonford shall be an asset to the village, visually, socially, in elegant design to save energy and with minimal extra motor traffic through the village. For the green field area north of the village there is a requirement for a Development Brief, which is a general plan for the development, including access and drainage, which must be approved before detailed planning permission is considered. I will press for early development of this brief.

My other relevant interest is the provision of safe walking and cycling routes (particularly to the Totnes schools), public transport and public access to the countryside, to rivers and to the coast. I share an allotment (and an ancient house) with my wife Frances, who founded the Harbertonford Allotment Society and secured the designation as village green of the grassy patch by the bridge - our only public open space.

As a councillor and also the harbertonford.org web manager, I am keen to increase the council's use of modern methods of communication so that items of immediate relevance are promptly transmitted to the village, and so that villagers can in return inform the council of their concerns and opinions.
